CHICAGO - The public is invited to the release celebration of a new book, "Thanking Father Ted: 35 Years of Notre Dame Coeducation 1972-2007," a collection of essays and recollections honoring the Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, president emeritus of the University of Notre Dame.

The event will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. CDT Sept. 24 at the University Club of Chicago, 76 E. Monroe St.

The book includes letters and essays written by Notre Dame alumnae and others thanking Hesburgh for admitting women undergraduates beginning in 1972 and describing how a Notre Dame education has affected their lives.

Notre Dame alumnus Jim Lynch, captain of the 1966 national championship football team, will be a guest speaker. Several Notre Dame women graduates also will be reading essays they submitted for the book.

The cost to attend is $45 per person. A light buffet dinner will be served. Make reservations online at: www.thankingfatherted.com.

The book retails for $26.95. Proceeds will finance a Notre Dame scholarship in Hesburgh's name.
